Using email aliases on a domain

Bericht door avokado » 27 feb 2019, 12:58

I have a domain (without hosting) where I have set up some aliases:
- AAA@mydomain.nl -> AAA@gmail.com
- BBB@mydomain.nl -> BBB@gmail.com
- CCC@mydomain.nl -> CCC@gmail.com

and I see that I can set-up catch all if I want:
- *@mydomain.nl -> AAA@gmail.com

Can I have more flexibility with wildcard aliases to do something like:
- DDD*@mydomain.nl -> DDD@gmail.com
- EEE*@mydomain.nl -> EEE@gmail.com

so that emails to e.g. DDD123@mydomain.nl AND DDD3544232@mydomain.nl will be sent to DDD@gmail.com?

Hello Avokado,

Catch-all mail doesn't support a specific wildcard functionality. Only *@mydomain.nl.

However you can e.g. filter your mail at Gmail for specific e-mail addresses or parts there of:

Thanks for your response. I was hoping to get better control over spam that I'm receiving. As enabling catch-all is not really recommended, I was hoping to create "dynamic" aliases so that i can not only reduce spam but also understand who is selling (or sharing) emails that i provide while subscribing to services.

Something like this:

However I understood from your colleague over chat that "+ aliases" are also not possible. Any plans to implement something like this in the future? It could be very interesting and useful to have!

This isn't something our mailplatform currently supports nor am I familiar with other webhosting companies who build a solution for this.

It sounds however for a great suggestion to be added to the mailserver software which is used by us and other IT companies.
